Title: Razor
Post by: gery on April 03, 2008, 04:21:56 AM
Well, I'm applying what I learnt in the toothbrush in a razor. I'll be posting some images of my progress and I'll update the first one every now and then

I added some detail on the bottom. It kinda has a problem in the intersection of 2 surfaces, but I dont know how to fix it, maybe later i'll try to take care of it.

Added the details in the top too. This was very hard for me and I didn't quite get the result I wanted. You'll have to teach me how to do this someday =)
Body is done with the exception of the Mach3 logo in the bottom, I'm too lazy to make a trace now.
I'll continue with the blades wich seams more easy but there are a lot of little details

Doing the part with the blades now, I'm being really really precise with it, making all the details. If the model won't look good, at least this part will =)
Still half the work to do there, but no more modeling for today

I must say you are progressing very fast and very good.
It is hard to think you have little experience with Rhino ;)

Anyway, I lost my real Wilkinson Razor, so I can't check few things, as I think theres something wrong with the handle. But nevermind. You are doing a great job. You inspired me to model my Wilkinson Quadro :D :D

Well, it doesn't seem so difficult =) . I started with Rhino it 2 or 3 weeks ago max... The other experience i have in 3D is with MODO, i used it for a month or two a long time ago, and I tryied Maya too a looooong time ago too. MODO is great, you should check it out, but it doesn't support nurbs. There polys and subd are great, so is the interface. But I want to learn Rhino first =)

About the handle, what do u mean? the chrome thing? What's wrong with it?

And I have a question too. Can you set default coordinates for an object? For example, u move it around, make some changes, and then you want it to be in the exact position as it was the first time. Is this possible?

No modeling today, got things to do...

I don't know about setting the default coordinates, but what I do is set one curve or any other reference object, and copy it, and when I move my desired model around, I move copied curve with it, so I can later snap that model to the same place if needed using that reference curve... Actually it is a line :D

Well, finished modeling, I need to work a little bit on the render, I'll post some details later. I'm gone now.

What do u think?

everything is great, nice render, even better model. Work a little on the graininess and you're done! ;)
Is it too much to ask for a tutorial ;)

p.s.
please, attach your images, for two reasons:
1. these images load too long (maybe the server is slow-imageshack)
2. in a couple of years, those images probably won't be online anymore, and no one will be able to see them, when they are on this server, they will be here as long as the site is here

I think this is a finished model. Move on to the next one ;)
thumbs up!

This one is the finished view

About the tutorial for this, it's kinda difficult, I don't do things like you do, I'm not very organized... It's everything trial and error...
But let me learn a little bit more about modeling and I'll be ready to write a tutorial soon.

I'll post a new WIP with what I want to start with

I am impressed, jealous and inspired all in one go. Nice work. How is it rendered? Not the Rhino default renderer, surely?
