I don't know what exactly "display as box" in 3d max do, but i suppose it makes complex scenes faster in modeling viewport, because it makes models more simple? I think Nurbs equivalence would be mesh settings in tools/options/mesh: jagged & faster. It will speed up the viewport model manipulation, but it may give you few graphic glitches, jagged edges and similar; carefully this also affects rendering mesh quality, so be sure to turn it to smooth & slower before rendering.
Also try to use layer options, you can separate geometry on different layers so you can turn off temporary some it will speed up the viewport drastically. Also use "block" command (sometihng like replicator in Modo), to make instances of the same objects that are repetitious - it will free up memory.

Bounding box view makes your objects appear as bonding boxes in your viewport. That way your computer doesn't have to be hiend to run the complex scenes. I used it in max years ago when I had rubbish pc. Actually we all had pcs like that :D

There isn't any command built-in in rhino, but Jeff LaSor made a plugin couple of years ago and attached it in the newgroup. I have attached the plugin here, so you can download.

Quote
Summary of commands:

BBDisplay - turns On and Off the bounding box display mode
AddBBDisplay - adds objects to the bounding box display
RemoveBBDisplay - removes object from the bounding box display.

Packe777, thank you for your comment, I will bear it in mind.

Ivan, right, is what I needed, works correctly in the viewport, the object becomes a box to move it.

Sorry, but my English is very bad.

Thank.
