Ask for help / Filleting
« on: October 25, 2008, 04:38:35 PM »
I'm having a problem when filleting a corner. My radius is much bigger than the angles between the edges, so i don't get filler in the corner. If i use patch command and then render I can see some weirdness in that corner... Is there a quick way of solving this? It doesn't have to be perfect, but it needs to look good in the render.

Thanks

Ask for help / Rhino vs AliasStudio
« on: October 11, 2008, 03:17:55 AM »
I know you are all here for learning Rhino and you'll probably defend it overall, but I wanted to know a bit about this program.

For what I've read, it is supposed to be Rhino for the pros, so I'm not sure if that's what I need. What would be better to use in specific situations? Interface, learning curve, modeling etc.

I use rhino for everything I need to model and I render it in Vray, but i saw sometimes the model would be easier with much more control in Alias. When modeling concepts that will not go to RP, which one is faster and easier?

What about rendering? Vray works great for me when making realistic images but it takes a while. I've seen some renders is Alias that look more like a very good hand sketch that I have no idea how to make in Vray.

And last, has anyone tried the sketching in Alias? It seems much more adapted to ID than painter (i have an intuo3) Is it hard? Can you combine these sketches to make a model?

Thanks,

Gery

p.s: i know Rhino is much much more cheaper than AliasStudio, but I'm just wondering which one is better for what

I have many many planes all over the place and i need to orient them to the Cplane. I have no idea how to do this without having to rotate every one of them which will take forever. Any help?

Rapid prototyping and CAM / Need help
« on: June 19, 2008, 04:05:15 PM »
Well, I need to make a prototype of this. The material isn't really important, I can just paint it to emulate what I need. I don't pretend to put it in a machine and have it done, I'm know I have to work on it when I have all the pieces and the overall shape for it to look perfect.

Here are the images

Modeling / Tangency - Urgent!
« on: May 06, 2008, 11:07:41 AM »
Hi, I'm having a problem that I don't know how to solve. I want an ellipse, parabola and hiperbola tangent to 2 lines, but I don't have that command in Rhino.
Here's a picture. The red lines are the ones that the ellipse need to be tangent to, the yellow ellipse is more or less the ellipse I'm aiming for, but does not touch the 2nd line and it's an inaccurate too. How can I do this? Remember, I need an ellipse, not a freeform curve...

Please help it's kinda urgent

Tutorials / Hair Dryer

Hi, great to see this new tut, I'm getting my hand on it right now.
Maybe it would be a good idea to have one subforum and a thread for each tutorial so that people could ask questions on that specific tutorial or see if it has already been answered. People could also upload there their finished render and compare to each other. Just an idea. Anyways, I'll be posting some doubts or things that are not clear here.

I received an email from McNeel Argentina, they are making this course at Buenos Aires, I'd like to know your opinion, if it's worth it or not:
http://www.amiando.com/Rhinoshoe?viewMode=chatboard
http://www.amiando.com/RhinoCalzadoArgentina?viewMode=photos

It costs 125 dollars, that's a bit expensive for us argentinian guys... Its 28 hours it total, from tuesday to saturday, all in one week. What do u think?

Ask for help / Toothbrush
« on: April 02, 2008, 04:33:10 AM »
Hi, I made a toothbrush from an italian tutorial, it had lots of cool stuff but I didn't understand many things because of the language. It would be nice if we could make a tutorial on more organic form like this one! You have to register to view the forum: http://www.treddi.com/ . He make almost everything with Surface Network, which seems more powerfull than the rail sweep thing, but there are some things that I think he's not too meticulous about. Anyways, here's the render I made:

About my render settings, I actually got them from a guy in the Vray forum, I couldn't really do a tutorial cause I don't understand why they are set like that... I can't even erase from my image the elapsed time... Do you know how?? I uploaded to rapidshare the visopt file if you want to use it: http://rapidshare.com/files/104247059/Studio1.visopt.html
I change the treshold value to 0.05 to do a quick render and for the final I leave it to 0.01 to eliminate the noise

One question about textures... How can u do precise ones? I mean, how do u map exactly to the model? Is there a way to get the mesh unwrapped in photoshop and work from there? When u have a single object but want 2 different materials to it, do you split the object in 2? Doesn't the edge between the show up? Is there a better way?

Thanks for your help,
Gery

p.s: I'll start uploading images when I understand the textures, lighting and stuff better so I can do better images too =)

« on: March 28, 2008, 01:13:06 PM »
Hi Ivan, I see you changed your forum, congrats =)

I wrote you a message last night but it seems it was deleted when you changed the forums, so here I go again.

I have a problem using Boolean Difference, i have a smooth solid and when i do the boolean stuff i get a weird stuff on the surface.

Here's the first image before the boolean

This is the image after

You can see the surface is no longer smooth. What can I do? Thanks
